This is going to be a short post. Why? Because it's National Book Lovers Day and instead of reading my blog post you should be...you know...reading a book. Because it's our day! A day where the only expectation is that you'll read books, buy books, celebrate books, and press repeat.
In short, Book Lovers Day is celebrated on August 9 every year and it's an unofficial holiday observed to encourage bibliophiles (that's you, I mean us) to celebrate reading and literature. So be advised -- put away your smartphones, turn off the television, back away from the computer, boycott Zoom, and pick up a book to read.
Yes, Book Lovers Day is widely recognized on a global scale, yet its origin and creator remain unknown. Which is fine by me. Whoever started this day is a kindred spirit. So let's dive in and READ to our hearts content today!
You can also check out some of my favorite bookish websites for book recommendations: We Need Diverse Books, Well-Read Black Girl, BlackLit, Book Riot, Oprah's Book Club, and Reese's Book Club.
And shout out to all the authors and their books pictured above + what I'm currently reading. As you can tell, I read a little bit of everything (YA, science fiction, romance, fantasy, and historic fiction) and I'm a walking billboard for diverse books.
See something you like? You can get them here: The Memory Librarian, Oh My Gods, The Wedding Crasher, A Cuban Girl's Guide to Tea and Tomorrow, The Wedding Party, Kisses and Croissants, Alex and Eliza, Shadowhouse Fall, By The Book, and The Last Story of Mina Lee.
